Modifications present in the y-mtPTM database

About this project

The Yeast Mitochondrial Post-Translational Modification database (y-mtPTM) provides a comprehensive list of about 20 types of experimentally validated post-translational modifications on mitochondrial proteins of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (see the detailed statistics). A search for a protein of interest reveals the modified amino acid residues, their position within the primary sequence as well as on 3D structure and links to the source references. The y-mtPTM is being periodically updated for newly identified sites and/or modifications. Please, contact us in case you find inconsistencies, or you have a dataset that is not included in the database.

Note on the reference mitochondrial proteome: The list contains 1,393 S. cerevisiae proteins that have been identified in at least one of the proteomic studies on highly purified mitochondria (Sickmann et al. 2003; Reinders et al. 2006; Morgenstern et al. 2017; Vögtle et al. 2017; di Bartolomeo et al. 2020). Be aware that some of the proteins may not be localized into the organelle, but rather co-purify with mitochondrial fraction. Such candidate contaminants were not removed as it was shown that a large fraction of the yeast mitochondrial proteome exhibits dual (or multiple) intracellular localization (Ben-Menachem et al. 2011). This possibility, however, was not tested by an alternative experimental strategy such as that described by (Bader et al. 2020). Removal of such ambiguously localized proteins may have resulted in a skewed list, therefore all 1,393 proteins were included into the reference mitochondrial proteome.
