Abstract:

During the last 10-15 years biology encountered a transition from
hypothesis-driven to data-driven research as exemplified by a
vast amount of data deposited on daily basis into various types
databases. This transition has been accompanied by development of
revolutionary technologies catalyzing emergence of new fields
such as comparative and functional genomics, bioinformatics, and
systems and synthetic biology. The aim of this textbook is to
provide a basic background in these interdisciplinary areas and
prepare students for the challenges they will face in their
upcoming careers.
